The CompetitionAbout the VJBL
The Victorian Junior Basketball League is the highest level of junior competition in Victoria. Games are played every Friday night across 80+ venues statewide — a graded structure from the Victorian Junior Championship League through to the Regional Competition.
A Rich History
Born on 18 May 1999 through the amalgamation of the Victorian Junior Girls Commission and Victorian Junior Boys Commission, the VJBL grew from 8–10 A Grade teams in the early 1970s to over 1,200 teams today.

2026 — Major ChangeThe New VJBL Structure New
Basketball Victoria has announced a significant restructure for the VJBL beginning in 2026 — introducing the Regional League (RL), which replaces the former RDL competition and creates a clearer, more accessible three-tier pathway for U12 and U14 athletes.

Player Expectations

- Commitment — one compulsory training per week, attend all compulsory games
- Domestic competition participation required to qualify for rep programs
Family Expectations
- Encouragement from the sideline — coaching is the coach's job
- Allow 24 hours before raising concerns with coaching staff
- Support team management and scoring duties at competitions
- Embrace the Enjoyment value — the smile on the way home matters
